PUTRAJAYA: The performance of government development projects in 2025 remains unsatisfactory and requires further improvement, chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said today.
He said that out of a revised total allocation of RM85.87 billion for 9,524 projects, RM64.03 billion had been spent, representing a national average of 74.56%.
&#8220;Only 16 ministries managed to exceed the national average, meaning 11 ministries have yet to reach that level,&#8221; he said at the National Development Symposium and Awards here.
Shamsul urged all secretaries-general to hold meetings of their respective ministerial development action councils as scheduled under Directive No. 1 of 2020.
&#8220;I also request that the public works department review the implementation methods for physical projects so they can be carried out more quickly and effectively,&#8221; he said.
He also said that the 2026 budget, announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, reflected the government’s commitment to continue assisting the people without increasing national debt, while laying a solid foundation for long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth.
