PETALING JAYA: The by-election for the Ayer Kuning state seat on April 26 will see a three-cornered fight involving Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
BN is represented by Umno’s Yusri Bakir, while PN has named its Tapah chairman Abd Muhaimin Malek, from PAS, as its candidate for the polls.
Yusri and Muhaimin will face PSM’s KS Bawani, who was also the party&#8217;s candidate in the 15th general election in November 2022.
Their candidacy was announced by Election Commission  returning officer Ahmad Redhauddin Ahmad Shokori at Dewan Merdeka in Tapah, Perak, after nominations closed at 10am.
The by-election follows the death of Umno assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin on Feb 22. Ishsam won the seat in the last general election with a 2,213-vote majority in a five-cornered contest.
Early voting has been set for April 22.
There are 31,897 registered voters in Ayer Kuning, comprising 31,315 ordinary voters and 582 police personnel and their spouses, according to the EC.
