SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested eight men who got into a brawl at the Meru police station in Klang on Monday.
Three of the suspects were at the police station to file a report when five others entered and the brawl ensued.
Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the incident was believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the two groups over looking after &#8220;security&#8221; in a housing area.
&#8220;At the moment, investigations show that the suspects are involved in gangs,&#8221; he said in a press conference at the state police headquarters.
Shazeli said the men, aged 28 to 44, were nabbed in a series of arrests and remanded separately until different dates, between March 3 and 7.
&#8220;The suspects are believed to have been intoxicated during the incident,&#8221; he added.
Checks found that some of the suspects had criminal records, including for murder, attempted murder, gang robbery and break-ins. One of the suspects tested positive for drugs.
The cops also confiscated a black helmet and a metal pipe that was used in the brawl.
Shazeli said the case is being probed under Sections 148, 427 and 324 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon, mischief and voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Investigations are also being held under Section 90 of the Police Act for disorderly conduct in a police station, and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act for carrying a weapon in a public place.
Sekinchan human trafficking ring busted
Separately, Shazeli said the cops busted a migrant smuggling ring after a series of arrests in Sekinchan, Sabak Bernam, with 32 migrants detained comprising 12 men, 14 women and three children.
Police also arrested a Malaysian man who acted as a transporter for the syndicate.
The first batch of arrests was made at around 2am on March 2 after the cops stopped a multipurpose vehicle at a petrol station in Sekinchan. They raided an oil palm estate three days later at about 3.30am.
