PETALING JAYA: All positions will be open for contest at Parti Rakyat Sarawak&#8217;s delegates conference in Kuching this October, party president Joseph Salang Gandum announced today.
&#8220;Whether there will be actual contests depends on the nominations,&#8221; he said today after a party leadership meeting, the Borneo Post reported.
He said the conference is likely to take place in the third week of October.
The triennial delegates conference was due to be held in April this year, but the council obtained a six-month extension to hold the event alongside the party&#8217;s anniversary in October as a cost-saving measure, he said.
Salang also did not dismiss the idea of PRS electing its first female president at the conference.
A recent online poll highlighted PRS women&#8217;s wing leader Doris Sophia Brodie as a popular candidate for the top post. Salang, however, questioned the credibility of such polls.
“It&#8217;s up to the divisions to nominate, and until then, it&#8217;s all speculation,” he added.
PRS, which holds 11 out of the 82 seats in the Sarawak legislative assembly, is part of the state&#8217;s ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
