PETALING JAYA: World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei cruised into the finals of the Australian Open today, keeping their hopes of clinching a second title this year alive.
The world No 4 pair beat Thailand&#8217;s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-16, 21-14 in 49 minutes to set up a final clash with either Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat/Ruttanapak Oupthong of Thailand or Felisha Pasaribu/Jafar Hidayatullah of Indonesia, who are meeting in another semi-final.
It was their first encounter with Pakkapon-Sapsiree, who are ranked 65th in the world.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who won the World Championships title in August, have qualified for 10 semi-finals and two finals this year and are on track for a second crown tomorrow.
Victory in the Australian Open, which is a Super 500 tournament, will give them a perfect boost ahead of the season-ending World Tour Finals to be played in Hangzhou, China, from Dec 17 to 21.
They will take home US$37,525 (RM155,190) if they win tomorrow, while the runners-up will pocket US$18,050 (RM76,648).
