Anwar Ibrahim says an official statement will be issued after the meeting, but points out that the 24% rate is lower than that imposed on some of Malaysia’s neighbours.

KAJANG: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will chair a special meeting this evening involving top government officials to discuss the 24% tariff imposed by the US on Malaysia, effective April 9.

Anwar acknowledged that Malaysia would be affected by the US’s reciprocal tariff, but pointed out that the rate was lower than that imposed on most of Malaysia’s neighbouring countries.

“Although the tariff is high, it is still lower than what some of our neighbours are facing. That is why we decided to engage with them (Malaysia’s regional neighbours).
