PETALING JAYA: A Bangladeshi woman was charged at a Johor Bahru sessions court today with voluntarily causing grievous harm to her lover by cutting off his genitals about two weeks ago.
The accused, Begum Masuma, 34, initially pleaded guilty after the charge was read by a court interpreter before judge Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail, Harian Metro reported.
However, the court did not accept the plea as it was conditional and the accused appeared to only partly understand the charge.
“I understand a little. It&#8217;s (my) &#8216;husband’s&#8217; fault,” she was quoted as saying.
According to the charge sheet, Begum had used a knife on Babu Mondol, 33.
The offence was committed at a house behind a factory in Gelang Patah at about 1am on Oct 8.
If convicted, Begum, a factory production operator, could be jailed up to 20 years and fined.
The court set Nov 11 for mention to obtain the services of a Bangladeshi interpreter.
Separately, in the magistrates&#8217; court, Begum was charged with entering Malaysia without a valid pass, an offence under the Immigration Act.
If convicted, she faces a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
