PETALING JAYA: The BMW driver who is accused of fatally running down a man at Taman Desa Jaya in Johor Bahru two days ago will be charged in court tomorrow, says Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak.
Kosmo reported him as saying police had completed the investigation paper and had referred the case to the deputy public prosecutor.
He said the 25-year-old man was investigated under Sections 41(1) and 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death, and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
“Checks showed he had 22 traffic summonses for various offences.
“They include a ‘fancy’ (non-standard) registration number, expired vehicle licence, not displaying the P sticker and modifications to the vehicle structure, including the exhaust,” he said.
It was reported earlier that a passer-by who helped to direct traffic at the site of an accident, in which a motorcyclist was killed, was hit by a car apparently driven by a drunk driver.
Taufik Ariff Sariff, 37, died in the incident at 2.10am.
Just before that, a Myanmar national in his 30s crashed his motorcycle in the right lane at Km16 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Kota Tinggi and died from head injuries.
Taufik, who was nearby, stopped to assist by alerting other motorists and managing traffic around the crash site while waiting for emergency services. However, the BMW driver struck him, causing serious internal injuries.
