PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is set to embark on a pilot project delivering medicine using drones to communities in remote areas.
MCMC said this initiative will be carried out in partnership with the health ministry, the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation as well as local drone technology providers, Bernama reported.
“This initiative is a pilot project to demonstrate the effectiveness of delivering medicines to rural and remote areas from health clinics to selected national information dissemination centres (Nadi).”
“It also aims to speed up access to medication for communities in hard-to-reach areas, including islands, remote villages, and locations without proper road infrastructure,” it said.
The first phase of the pilot project will be carried out in the fourth quarter of the year involving two Nadi centres, and will be expanded to 150 in 2026 and 392 the following year.
MCMC said this project was in line with Putrajaya&#8217;s aim of expanding access to health services, particularly for rural communities, with the use of technology.
