PETALING JAYA: Two hardened criminals, with 61 and 77 criminal records respectively, including for attempted murder, were among three arrested two days ago for suspected involvement in car theft.
Seremban police chief Hatta Che Din said they were arrested after a man lodged a police report about the theft of his Honda Civic RS.
“In the 10am incident, the victim claimed the suspects took his car keys from a car wash and drove off with the car.
“Acting on information, a team from the Seremban criminal investigation division’s intelligence and operations unit arrested three suspects at 5.30pm the same day,” Harian Metro reported him as saying.
Hatta said the three men, aged between 34 and 48, were arrested in Cheras, Selangor. Police also seized the car reported missing.
He said police also seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle that had been reported missing in Petaling Jaya on May 16.
“We seized special equipment for car theft, such as a programming machine, a jammer and 12 vehicle number plates.
“Several car keys, seven Touch ‘N Go cards and various branded handbags were also recovered. Further inspection also uncovered seven packets of drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, heroin and yaba pills,” he said.
Hatta said the 77 criminal convictions of one of the suspects included one for luxury vehicle theft.
“The other suspect with 61 criminal offences is wanted for attempted murder in Bentong, Pahang,” he said.
Hatta said urine tests found all the suspects positive for methamphetamine use. They were remanded for four days to aid investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code for car theft.
He said the two were also suspected of involvement in 13 car theft cases around Seremban, the Klang Valley, Melaka and Batu Pahat.
