IPOH: Police have recorded statements from eight people to assist in an investigation into the death of a climber who was found dead at the summit of Gunung Liang Barat near Tanjung Malim, Perak, on Thursday.
Muallim deputy police chief Suhaimi Muhamad said those called in included climbers who took part in the same expedition as the victim.
“There are still three more climbers whose statements have yet to be recorded. They will be summoned soon to complete the investigation,” Suhaimi told Bernama today.
“It is understood that the three returned home immediately after reaching the foot of the mountain because of work and leave commitments.&#8221;
He said the organisers of the expedition have also been identified and will be called in to provide their statement soon.
An autopsy conducted at Slim River Hospital found that the 34-year-old climber had died of hypothermia.
The victim was found dead at about 3.30pm on Thursday at the summit of Gunung Liang. His body was airlifted the next day in a helicopter operated by the fire and rescue department.
