PETALING JAYA: Police will deploy mobile patrol vehicles in school compounds in Selangor regularly to enhance their presence during school hours, the state&#8217;s police chief, Shazeli Kahar, said.
He said this was part of efforts to ensure a safe school environment, which will include a review of the school liaison officer programme.
“We will allow patrol vehicles to enter school grounds periodically to improve police visibility and ensure faster responses if needed.
“This is based on a directive from Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail and it will be implemented across Selangor,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
Shazeli said police were taking the murder of a 16-year-old girl at a school in Bandar Utama yesterday seriously, and were collaborating with the education ministry and state education department to identify the most effective ways to maintain school safety.
He also said police were also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to remove images or personal information of the victim and suspect circulating on social media.
The girl was stabbed to death by a 14-year-old boy at 9.30am yesterday. Police later confiscated two sharp weapons which are said to have been used to stab her multiple times.
Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the suspect had been detained and that no one else was harmed in the incident.
He said that while the motive was still under investigation, there were no indications of bullying involved.
