PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the party intends to contest one more seat in the coming Sabah state election, but has yet to announce it as talks with its allies are still going on.
He said the final seat is intended to be contested by a female candidate from the party.
“We were supposed to announce a seat in the interior, but we are still in negotiations with another coalition within the government,” Malay Mail quoted him as saying.
The final seat is believed to be Kemabong, and the candidate is likely to be Noorita Sual, the former Tenom MP who is now a senator.
DAP is understood to be negotiating with Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah for the seat.
Separately, Loke said DAP will contest the state election under the Pakatan Harapan banner.
He said the decision followed internal discussions within Sabah DAP on whether to use its own logo or that of PH.
“We are part of the federal coalition and a national party.
“In the past, in Sabah and Sarawak, we made some exceptions, but this time, Sabah DAP felt the best strategy is to adopt the federal Harapan logo,” he said.
Earlier, Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe announced that the party would <a href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2025/11/08/dap-names-7-candidates-for-sabah-polls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">contest </a>seven seats in the state election, including two it lost to Warisan through defections following the 2020 polls.
The Sabah election will be held on Nov 29, with nomination day set for Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25.
There are 73 seats up for grabs.
