Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said local authorities should emulate the approach taken in Kuala Lumpur to revitalise business centres for Malay small traders and hawkers.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged state governments and local councils not to neglect the interests of small traders, particularly Malay hawkers.

Local authorities should emulate the approach taken in Kuala Lumpur to revitalise business centres for Malay small traders and hawkers.

“Don’t neglect the interests of small traders, especially Malay hawkers in our towns,” he said. “We want the greatness of Kuantan, Temerloh, Kota Bharu or Alor Setar not only to be measured by new malls but also by how the state governments and local councils enhance basic facilities, cleanliness, stalls, kiosks, hawker centres and trading spaces.”
