TEHRAN: An explosion of unknown origin tore through Iran’s most advanced container port on Saturday, triggering a major fire, killing eight people and injuring hundreds, state media said.

With choking smoke spreading throughout the area, all schools and offices 23km away in Bandar Abbas, the Hormozgan provincial capital, have been ordered closed on Sunday, state TV said, to allow authorities to focus on the emergency effort.
