PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh&#8217;s hopes of winning his first World Tour title ended today when he lost in the Macau Open final.
The world No 45 went down 21-15, 21-5 to Indonesia&#8217;s world No 25 Alwi Farhan in 54 minutes at the Macau East Asian Games Dome.
The match saw multiple stoppages because of the leaking roof, with the court having to be mopped several times.
Justin, 21, earned US$14,060 (RM60,188) as the runner-up, while Alwi took home US$27,750 (RM118,792) as the champion.
The fifth seeded Alwi has now beaten Justin in four of their six encounters so far.
Despite his loss, Justin, who had been dogged by inconsistency and early exits, can still take pride in his performance in the Macau Open.
His best finish this season had been a quarter-final appearance in the Taiwan Open in May, having suffered either first- or second-round defeats in nine of his 10 outings.
He was hoping to end Malaysia’s drought in the men’s singles event in the Macau Open since 2010, when Lee Chong Wei lifted the title.
No Malaysian player has won the men’s singles title in the World Tour Super series so far this year.
