PETALING JAYA: A total of 6,892 people were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) between 2012 and 2025, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
Saifuddin said a majority of the Sosma detainees &#8211; 4,869 &#8211; were arrested for human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
“Of the number, 3,018 were charged in court and sentenced, while 549 are still standing trial.
“About 40 were granted discharges not amounting to an acquittal and 21 were acquitted and discharged,” he said in a written Dewan Negara reply.
He was responding to Hasbie Muda, who wanted to know the number of Sosma detainees and the offences they were accused of.
Saifuddin said about 1,410 detained under Sosma were linked to organised crime, while 611 were held for terror-related offences. Two were detained for crimes against the country.
He said 655 of the 1,410 detained for their involvement in organised crime have been charged and sentenced.
“Some 105 are still standing trial, 191 were granted DNAAs, and 21 were acquitted and discharged,” he said.
He said 249 of the 611 detained for terror-related crimes have been sentenced, while 18 are still standing trial.
“Twelve were granted DNAAs, and another 12 were acquitted and discharged,” he said.
