The Home Office plans to use the site to accommodate more than 500 single, male ‘illegal migrants’ as it bids to end its controversial use of hotels for asylum seekers.

CROWBOROUGH: Hundreds of people marched in a small southern English town on Sunday to protest the use of a former military barracks to house asylum seekers.

The demonstrators, many carrying British or English national flags, marched through Crowborough in East Sussex, where 27 male asylum seekers last week moved into the town’s training camp.

The camp has become the latest flashpoint as the UK government struggles to house asylum seekers, after popular opposition forced it to scale back use of hotels.
