KOTA BHARU: Barbers in Tanah Merah, Kelantan are seeing a boom in business as customers flock to get the best cuts to celebrate Aidilfitri, which is expected to fall on Monday.
A visit by Bernama revealed barbershops in this area were crowded with customers, many of whom were willing to wait for hours to get a neat and stylish haircut for the first day of Syawal.
Barbershop owner Ku Syafiq Aizat Ku Aziz, 28, said for the past two weeks, his shop has experienced an extraordinary surge in customers.
&#8220;I get more than 30 customers a day, and some are even willing to queue up for one or two hours for their turn.
&#8220;On a regular day, there are only about 10 customers, but during this period, the number has more than doubled,&#8221; he said in Kampung Padang Siam here today.
Ku Syafiq usually operates his shop from 10am to midnight, but during this period, he starts from 2pm and ends at 1am to accommodate the increase in customers.
“It takes 10 to 15 minutes for one customer to get a haircut, and I charge between RM8 and RM13 depending on the requested style,&#8221; he said.
Another barber, Roshidi Rashid, 38, is also enjoying a surge in income, earning between RM200 and RM300 a day during this period.
&#8220;Alhamdulillah, the blessings of Aidilfitri this time are double compared to ordinary days, during which I earn around RM100 or less.
&#8220;In fact, I had to hire a part-time barber to avoid customers having to wait too long,&#8221; he shared, adding that there are even those who come early in the mornings &#8211; even before his shop has opened.
