The state fire and rescue department says it received a distress call at about 4.30am today.

PETALING JAYA: A search and rescue operation was launched after a man was believed to have fallen off the Penang second bridge early this morning.

Penang fire and rescue department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the man’s car was found at Km14 of the bridge heading towards the mainland.

He said the department received a distress call from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at about 4.30am and a team comprising personnel from the Bayan Baru and Bagan Jermal fire stations was deployed to the scene.
