PETALING JAYA: A single mother and her daughter are believed to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a Proton Exora in Melaka last night.
Kosmo reported that Zabanah Abu Hussin, 57, and her daughter Intan Nur Shafiqah Othman, 25, were found unconscious in the car by members of the public at around midnight.
Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police were informed of the incident via a MERS 999 call at 12.24am and rushed a team of patrol officers to the location.
&#8220;When they arrived, the officers found that the women had died. Their deaths were confirmed by a Melaka Hospital medical officer.
&#8220;They were a mother and daughter living in Taman Kelemak Jaya, Alor Gajah,&#8221; he said.
Dzulkhairi said the victims were believed to have asphyxiated from carbon monoxide poisoning after stopping to rest without switching off the car’s engine.
&#8220;The engine and air conditioner were still on when they were found. The windows were shut, and they were both lying in the front seats.
&#8220;The victims’ bodies were sent to Melaka Hospital’s forensic unit for an autopsy which was conducted this morning,&#8221; he said, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death.
