JENJAROM: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today defended economy minister Rafizi Ramli’s decision to go on leave, calling it a non-issue.
He also said Rafizi would only be on leave for a few days.
“Is there a rule saying someone can’t take leave? I myself am looking for a few days off,” he told reporters after Friday prayers here.
“I haven’t taken any leave … after the (Asean) summit, maybe I can get a few days, too,” he added, brushing off repeated questions about the reason for Rafizi’s leave of absence.

News of Rafizi’s leave surfaced after Malaysiakini quoted an unnamed Cabinet minister as confirming it but dismissing talk of his resignation.
The break came amid speculation over Rafizi’s political standing, especially after the defeat of several alleged allies in PKR’s recent divisional polls.
A slew of prominent incumbent divisional leaders were also knocked out, as members elected lesser-known figures.
PKR vice-presidents Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and K Saraswathy, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli, and several MPs were among those who lost. Some of them have since filed an appeal over the results.
Rafizi is expected to defend his position as PKR deputy president in next month’s party elections.
Allegations of irregularities had plagued the party&#8217;s divisional polls following the implementation of a blockchain-based voting system.
Anwar said independent auditors had been appointed to look into the complaints.
