MetMalaysia says the earthquake took place 107km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 42km.

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the powerful earthquake that struck off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, the meteorological department (MetMalaysia) said today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the earthquake, which occurred at 7.24am Malaysian time, was located 107km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, at a depth of 42km.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 8.7 and struck 126km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
