PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah had to work hard before booking a berth in the Arctic Open finals, making it their sixth appearance in a final this year.
The Malaysian world No 2 pair took 62 minutes to defeat Taiwan&#8217;s 11th ranked duo Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu 22-24, 21-8, 21-17 at the Energia Areena in Vantaa, Finland.
In the final tomorrow, Pearly-Thinaah will take on Japan’s 6th ranked pair Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi. The Malaysians have a better head-to-head record having beaten them twice in their three encounters.
This is the second victory for the World Championships runners-up over the Taiwanese duo in as many encounters.
For Pearly-Thinaah, this will be their sixth final appearance this year, winning only the Thailand Open crown in May.
The Arctic Open is a World Tour Super 500 championship offering a total prize money of US$450,000 (RM2 million).
The winners in the doubles categories will take home US$37,525 (RM158,468) and the runners-up US$18,050 (RM76,225). All semi-finalists get to take home US$6,650 (RM28,083).
