LONDON: The Premier League&#8217;s 2026-27 season will begin on Aug 22 and run through May 30, 2027, concluding a week before the Champions League final, the league announced on Friday.
The campaign will comprise of 33 weekends and five midweek rounds. It will start a week later than usual to allow recovery time following the expanded World Cup, which ends on July 19.
This adjustment also provides an 89-day gap between the end of the 2025–26 season and the start of the new campaign.
&#8220;With an increasingly congested global football calendar, player welfare remains a priority for the Premier League,&#8221; the league said in a statement.
&#8220;Over the Christmas and New Year period, no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule within the expanded international calendar,&#8221; the league added.
The normal Boxing Day schedule of matches will return next season. This season, however, there will be only one Boxing Day game due to scheduling issues.
