<p>PETALING JAYA: The top leadership of Parti Sosialis Malaysia will discuss a proposal for the party to forge ties with Perikatan Nasional to avoid seat clashes, PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj said.</p>
<p>Jeyakumar told FMT the proposal will be decided at a central committee meeting to be convened soon.</p>
<p>“Nonetheless, PSM maintains a firm stand against race-based and religious politics,” he said.</p>

<p>He was asked to comment on Perak PSM exco member K Kunasekaran&#8217;s call yesterday for the party to forge an electoral pact with PN.</p>
<p>Kunasekaran said entering into an alliance to coordinate seats and avoid three-cornered fights did not mean the party was compromising its socialist ideals.</p>
<p>Instead, he said, it is a strategic step to ensure the people’s voice continues to be heard and that the struggle of the working class is not drowned out within the current two-bloc political system.</p>
<p>In August, PSM had declined to join a loose opposition coalition announced by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, saying it was uncomfortable with the fact that many of the parties involved were playing up racial issues.</p>
