LONDON: Rangers fired manager Russell Martin on Sunday after a dismal 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Falkirk left him with just one win from his first seven league matches in charge.
Martin had to be escorted from Falkirk&#8217;s stadium by security guards after police dispersed Rangers fans that had tried to block their team bus from leaving.
&#8220;Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin,&#8221; the Glasgow giants said in a statement.
&#8220;While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club&#8217;s expectations.&#8221;
The club said that assistant coach Matt Gill and first-team coach Mike Williamson would also leave.
Former Southampton boss Martin had endured a nightmare start at Ibrox since being appointed in the close-season.
Rangers were knocked out of Champions League qualifying with a humiliating 9-1 aggregate drubbing by Club Brugge, before losing their first two Europa League games.
They were lucky to escape with a point from Falkirk and sit eighth in the 12-team Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine off bitter city rivals Celtic.
