ALOR SETAR: PAS election director Sanusi Nor has urged PAS supporters to give more generous donations ahead of the next general election, saying the party cannot rely on just RM20 donations any more.
He said campaigning for one parliamentary seat may now cost up to RM1 million and warned that defending existing seats is even harder than winning them.
“So don’t go asking for a mere RM20, ask them to give more. One parliamentary seat, gentlemen, will cost a million (ringgit),” he told delegates at the PAS muktamar here today.
Sanusi also said it was frustrating when certain candidates relied on PAS-provided equipment without contributing financially.
“You want to be a leader but have no money or machinery? Don’t make us bring that up.
“Those of you who don’t contribute money and have no equipment, you might as well hang up your batik and sarong,” he said, in an apparent reference to leaders from Perikatan Nasional ally Bersatu.
Sanusi said some PAS units were now being asked to raise at least RM1,200 per polling district just to cover basic mobilisation costs.
He said PAS members at every level must now prioritise election readiness at every party meeting.
“From today, everyone at all party levels must put election preparedness on their priority list.”
He added that by not mastering technology and digital tools, PAS would be stuck with expensive, outdated methods of campaigning.
Sanusi warned that PAS must take control of the media space or risk having its narrative hijacked by “fake” social media accounts.
“If we don’t control the media today, our politics will be determined by these fake accounts,” he said.
Sanusi emphasised that social media, conventional outlets and new platforms must all be included in the party’s communication strategy, but this would require significant investment in terms of funds.
