PETALING JAYA: A Russian toddler died today, four days after being stung by jellyfish at Pantai Cenang in Langkawi on Saturday morning.
Two-year-old Vladimir Iakubanets died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah, at 9.46am having undergone treatment at the hospital since Saturday, Harian Metro reported.
The boy&#8217;s father, known only as Nikita, said Vladimir had suffered serious complications from the sting.
He said Vladimir and his mother, Olga, were swimming in shallow waters at Pantai Cenang on Saturday morning when he suddenly screamed in pain. Olga hurriedly brought him to shore when he stopped breathing.
&#8220;I tried to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Several other tourists came and took us to the lifeguards.
&#8220;They washed his wound with vinegar before sending him to a clinic and then the hospital,&#8221; said Nikita.
He thanked the medical team for doing its best to save Vladimir, and said the family was not considering legal action.
He nonetheless hopes the incident would serve as a warning to other visitors about the presence of jellyfish in Langkawi&#8217;s waters and the dangers posed by them.
Nikita and Olga plan to cremate Vladimir in Malaysia before taking his ashes back to Russia.
