KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional has dropped Saifuddin Abdullah as its Pahang chief, not long after he openly criticised PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and called for his resignation as Bersatu president.
In a statement tonight, PN secretary-general Azmin Ali said Saifuddin will be replaced by Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who is also the PAS deputy president.
Earlier today, Saifuddin told Berita Harian that Muhyiddin should step down as Bersatu president, claiming the former prime minister had “lost his leadership quality” and was no longer the same leader he once admired.
The former foreign minister also accused Muhyiddin of failing to convene party meetings, and urged senior party leaders Azmin and Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to resign.
Last Friday, Saifuddin also called on Muhyiddin to clear the air over whether his son-in-law, fugitive businessman Adlan Berhan, had indeed fled the country.
His call for Muhyiddin to come clean followed the appearance of pictures of Adlan living lavishly abroad.
Saifuddin said he had pushed for an answer from Muhyiddin in the party&#8217;s WhatsApp group, in which he also noted that the matter had been raised in Parliament twice, but no explanation was provided.
He said the matter was raised again for the third time on Thursday when Muhyiddin was speaking during the budget debate, but he received no response.
Azmin also announced that Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has been appointed as the new PN chief for Melaka, replacing Dr Yadzil Yaakub, while Shahidan Kassim takes over the post in Perlis from menteri besar Shukri Ramli.
“The appointment of the new state liaison chiefs is effective Oct 28,” he said.
