Organiser Yeo Yaw Lee said that the convoy is intended to educate the public on the state’s historical status, rights and policy imbalances.

PETALING JAYA: A convoy of motor vehicles will be held by activists to celebrate Sarawak’s independence from colonial rule despite the cancellation of an “independence day” rally, slated to be held on July 22 in Kuching.

The 722 rally was to celebrate July 22 as Sarawak’s day of independence. Rally organisers called it off after the Kuching South City Council banned the planned release of pigeons and the use of all motor vehicles. The organisers had planned to hold a parade of vintage cars as part of the rally.

Instead, a newly formed association will hold the “2025 Pan Sarawak Independence Day Convoy” on July 18-21 along the Pan Borneo Highway, according to Dayak Daily.
