PETALING JAYA: Shuttle buses will operate around the clock at Kuala Lumpur International Airport following frequent breakdowns of the aerotrain service.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said a full shuttle-bus service will be deployed from 11pm to 5am and a concurrent shuttle service from 5am to 11pm alongside the aerotrain service.
The company said the night shuttle service was to facilitate inspection and rectification works on the aerotrain system.
The concurrent service during the day was to ensure uninterrupted passenger movement, MAHB said.
The company announced it was implementing an action plan immediately following &#8220;a declining trend in the aerotrain system&#8217;s reliability, particularly involving the vehicle and power distribution systems&#8221;.
MAHB said it had taken up the matter formally with contractors Alstom and IJMC-Pestech Joint Venture, and demanded immediate corrective action.
MAHB said its action plan would be led by its project team with the full involvement of contractors, consultants, together with an independent technical assessor.
The airport operator said it will continue to work closely with the Land Public Transport Agency and the transport ministry to address the issue.
Yesterday, transport minister Loke Siew Fook instructed MAHB to maintain the shuttle bus service even after the aerotrain resumes operations.
The aerotrain service broke down again on Tuesday, which MAHB attributed to a power system malfunction. The disruption forced passengers to walk along the tracks in the dark while carrying their luggage.
It was the second disruption in a month, prompting Loke to order an investigation.
On Oct 15, the aerotrain service was disrupted after both train units experienced a temporary power trip. The aerotrain also broke down on Sept 4 because of a similar cause.
