PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have entered the semi-finals of the Australian Open by defeating the Korean-Malaysian pair of Choi Sol Gyu-Goh V Shem today.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin, who have failed to qualify for the World Tour Finals next month, were made to sweat against their 57th ranked rivals, taking 68 minutes to win 21-13, 20-22, 22-20.
The world No 4 pair will be hoping to end their disappointing season on a high by winning the World Tour Super 500 Australian Open title in Sydney.
They have only lifted the India Open trophy this year and reached the final of another tournament.
They will take on Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin in tomorrow’s semi-final, after the Indonesians staged an upset by knocking out Malaysia’s world No 5 pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun.
Raymond-Nikolaus are ranked 27 rungs below Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who lost 15- 21, 21-19, 15-21 against the fast-rising Indonesians in a match that lasted 58 minutes.
The loss will not have a bearing on Wei Chong-Kai Wun&#8217;s participation in the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, from Dec 17 to 21 as they have already booked their spot.
