PETALING JAYA: The trailer driver involved in the crash near Kluang, Johor, on Thursday that killed five people had a record for four offences, including two with the police, says road transport department (JPJ) director-general Aedy Ramly.
Aedy said JPJ records show the driver committed technical offences between 2017 and 2022, which have since been resolved.
“They comprise two offences for failing to comply with periodic inspection notices, as well as violations for carrying an unsecured load, and transporting cargo protruding beyond the vehicle&#8217;s body,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a press conference at the Amanjaya Terminal in Ipoh, Perak, last night.
On Friday, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said a thorough and transparent investigation would be conducted into the accident at Km58.1 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) involving the trailer and three vehicles.
Aedy said JPJ is conducting an inspection and safety audit on the trailer company.
He said the probe, initiated immediately after the accident, aims to determine whether the company complied with technical requirements.
“As of now, we have yet to obtain any conclusive findings. We are also awaiting the police report on the incident.
&#8220;Once the investigation is completed, JPJ will submit its report to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he said.
