Cardiothoracic surgeon and professor Dr K Sivakumar becomes the first Malaysian fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

PETALING JAYA: Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr K Sivakumar, a professor at Universiti Malaya, has become the first Malaysian to be made a fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

The university said Sivakumar was conferred the fellowship yesterday, marking a proud milestone for Malaysia in the global surgical community. “The fellowship is reserved for surgeons who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to surgical education and leadership,” Bernama quoted the university as saying.

Sivakumar said the fellowship was a very significant recognition as a surgeon in an academic setting whose primary role is to train young surgeons. “As a surgeon, I can save one life at a time. But as a trainer, I can empower others to save many more,” said Sivakumar.
