PETALING JAYA: A viral video allegedly showing a Jalur Gemilang hung upside down at a business premises in Bandar Pinggiran Subang, Sungai Buloh, yesterday is from last year, say police.
Sungai Buloh police chief Hafiz Nor said the company’s project manager, a man in his 40s, had lodged a police report at 4.30pm today, Berita Harian reported.
He said the complainant denied the claims made in the video, and police inspection of CCTV footage of the past few days found that the flag had not been hung incorrectly as claimed on social media.
&#8220;An investigation also found that the business had not been operational for the past few days.
“According to the employees, the incident occurred in 2024 when the flag was first purchased, and the mistake was corrected after that,” he said.
Hafiz said the video had been reshared by a TikTok user, and checks as of 7pm today found more than 5,000 comments and 2,000 reposts of the video.
He advised the public to use social media responsibly and not to upload anything with defamatory content.
“Hanging the Malaysian flag upside down is a serious offence as it involves a symbol of national sovereignty. This can cause anger and dissatisfaction among Malaysians,” he said.
