The team won two matches and lost three to finish fourth overall, slipping from 12th to 14th in the global rankings and raising concerns about the direction of Malaysian hockey.
Meanwhile, the football fraternity continues to confront the fallout from the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling on improper naturalisation of several players, a decision that has left the national programme facing scrutiny and embarrassment.
