PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali has hit out at Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau for contradicting himself over allocations for Sabah and Sarawak provided under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution.
In a Facebook video, Armizan said in 2023, Tangau had denied that the funds were “special grants”.
However, he said Tangau now referred to them as such and even thanked the government for increasing the amount while debating the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
He shared a clip of Tangau&#8217;s recent speech referring to the allocations as “special grants”, alongside footage from their 2023 exchange in Parliament.
In the earlier debate, Tangau was seen asking Armizan, the then minister in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs, not to mislead the lower house by calling the funds “special grants”, insisting they were the “rights of Sabahans” and “two different things”.
&#8220;It was a strong accusation that I misled the Dewan,” said Armizan, who is now the domestic trade and cost of living minister.
&#8220;But Standing Order 36(12) states that any MP who makes statements that mislead the house is deemed in contempt of the house and can be referred to the rights and privileges committee. So, who is misleading the Dewan and the Sabahans now?”
Armizan reminded Sabah leaders to read the Federal Constitution, which clearly defines the allocations as special grants.
“The Federal Constitution is the highest law of the land. Please be diligent and read it. Don&#8217;t be ignorant and embarrass Sabahans in front of the masses,” he added.
