PETALING JAYA: While the base medical and health insurance and takaful (MHIT) plan aims to be an affordable entry-level product for those currently uninsured or struggling with premium hikes, it does not provide competitively meaningful coverage and risks shifting costs back to patients, says the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy.
Announced yesterday by health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, the scheme provides an annual coverage limit of RM100,000, adjusting upwards to RM150,000 for those above 60.
Indicative monthly premiums range from RM80 to RM120 for those aged 31 to 35, RM280 to RM350 for aged 61 to 65, and RM500 to RM780 for those above 75.
