IPOH: Police seized drugs worth RM12.9 million from a vehicle at KM375 of the southbound North-South Expressway near Slim River on Monday.
Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said a highway patrol unit from the Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department stopped a suspicious Honda Stream multi-purpose vehicle at about 1.30 pm.
&#8220;The suspects attempted to flee by speeding off, prompting police to give chase for about 2km.
&#8220;The vehicle eventually stopped, and the two suspects fled into the nearby jungle area. Efforts are underway to track them down,&#8221; Noor Hisam told a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters here today.
Noor Hisam said an inspection of the vehicle found 15 sacks of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 374kg, and a black plastic bag containing 11.281kg of heroin.
He said the seizure, estimated to be worth RM12.9 million, was the largest drug haul in the state so far this year.
&#8220;The drugs are believed to have been intended for distribution in the Klang Valley and could have supplied about 3.7 million drug users,&#8221; he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Checks also revealed that the seized vehicle was registered under a woman’s name.
&#8220;This success was the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public,&#8221; Noor Hisam said.
