Johari Ghani says the reciprocal trade agreement with the US has not been ratified, but Washington has other legal mechanisms to impose tariffs.

PETALING JAYA: The government is keeping a close watch on developments in the US after president Donald Trump’s import tariffs were struck down by the Supreme Court yesterday.

Investment, trade and industry minister Johari Ghani said that while Malaysia had signed a reciprocal trade agreement with the US last year, Putrajaya has yet to ratify the deal.

“The government is carefully assessing recent legal and policy developments in the United States,” he said in a statement.
