Operators must bear the expensive installation costs for direct current type EV chargers, which require substantial investments in equipment and maintenance.

PETALING JAYA: The high installation costs of EV chargers and the lengthy approval process for charging facilities are key challenges faced by the government in achieving its target of 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide by the end of this year.

Investment, trade, and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said operators face significant expenses when installing direct current (DC) chargers, which require substantial investment in both equipment and maintenance.

“Additionally, there are also challenges in seeking approval from the authorities for EV charging facilities, as the application, decision-making and approval processes would take more than six months.
