JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Iranians to take to the streets and demand accountability from their government, as the country grapples with power and water shortages.
Netanyahu&#8217;s remarks came just two months after the arch-foes engaged in a 12-day conflict that saw Israel and Iran exchange heavy strikes.
Israel&#8217;s surprise offensive killed senior military commanders, nuclear scientists and hundreds of others in Iran.
Iranian ballistic missile salvos targeted Israel – with several projectiles managing to evade its air defences, killing 30 civilians.
In the video address posted online, Netanyahu addressed Iran&#8217;s ongoing water shortages that has seen water levels in the country&#8217;s reservoirs drop dramatically.
Last week, Iranian authorities also ordered many government offices to close in a bid to cut power consumption as a heatwave strains generating capacity.
&#8220;In this brutal summer heat, you don&#8217;t even have clean, cold water to give your children,&#8221; said the prime minister.
&#8220;So here is the great news: The moment your country is free, Israel&#8217;s top water experts will flood into every Iranian city bringing cutting-edge technology and know-how,&#8221; he added.
Netanyahu went on to call on Iranians to &#8220;take risks for freedom&#8221;, &#8220;take to the streets&#8221; and &#8220;build a better future for your families and for all Iranians&#8221;.
The Israeli premier has used video messages in the past to address countries Israel is at odds with and call on their citizens to take matters into their own hands.
The speech comes as Netanyahu is facing increasing pressure at home and abroad to end Israel&#8217;s 22-month war in Gaza amid warnings of an unfolding famine and secure the release of Israeli hostages being held there.
