PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General&#8217;s Chambers has no plans to charge any other individuals in connection with the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir until the coroner&#8217;s inquest concludes.
Attorney-General Dusuki Mokthar said only five female students have been charged, Berita Harian reported.
“At this stage, there is no proposal to charge any other suspect until the inquest proceedings are completed.
&#8220;Once the proceedings conclude, we will review the matter and take action based on the inquest findings,&#8221; he was quoted as saying after an event in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, today.
The inquest into Zara&#8217;s death began on Sept 3 and will continue on Sept 8 to 12, 17 to 19, and 22 to 30.
Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school’s hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu the following day.
Five teenage girls were charged last month with uttering abusive words against Zara, which could have caused her distress.
They are accused of committing the offence at Block A-3-6 of SMK Agama Tun Datu Mustapha in Limauan, Papar, between 10pm and 11pm on July 15.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said the charges against the five may be amended during the course of the proceedings.
