SHAH ALAM: Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has stressed that there is no culture of “poison-pen letters” in the party and warned members against introducing such practices.
Hamzah said Bersatu must stay united and resilient as it prepares for the challenges ahead.
“Do not bring in bad cultures. Do not bring into this party practices that can cause damage,&#8221; he said when opening the general assemblies of the youth and women’s wings at Bersatu’s annual general assembly here today.
“There is no culture of poison pen letters, no culture of backstabbing. This is one big family.
&#8220;This is a party that upholds the people’s voice. This is a party that will fight for the future of our religion, race, and nation.&#8221;
Although he did not refer to it directly, a poison-pen letter has been circulating on WhatsApp in the lead-up to the AGM.
The letter accused Hamzah of fabricating claims that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had promised to hand over the leadership to him.
It referred to Bersatu’s so-called “Gopeng Consensus”, arguing that it was merely an understanding for Muhyiddin to decide the party’s 2024 election formula, not a pledge of succession.
The letter also accused Hamzah of attempting to undermine Muhyiddin’s presidency and spreading lies to divide Bersatu.
Both Muhyiddin and Hamzah were returned unopposed in last October’s party election for the 2024-2027 term.
Muhyiddin has since <a href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2025/09/04/poison-pen-letter-targeting-hamzah-cant-be-taken-seriously-says-muhyiddin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismissed</a> the letter, saying its contents cannot be verified.
