Chow Kon Yeow says he has consistently promoted public transport but infrastructure projects cannot be overlooked in a bid to ease Penang’s traffic woes.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow has defended the need for an underpass at the Mount Erskine – Bagan Jermal junction, after the project came under criticism by experts and activists yesterday.

Chow said public transport could not provide a complete solution to traffic woes as private vehicles also needed proper roads.

He said he had consistently promoted public transport, but infrastructure projects such as the RM50 million underpass could not be overlooked.
