PETALING JAYA: A residents&#8217; action group has called out the Selangor government for its failure to engage the public on the latest developments in the proposed Petaling Jaya Dispersal (PJD) Link highway project.
The group, Stakeholders cum Residents Against PJD Link Highway, said it had sent out many invitations to the state authorities and key individuals requesting public engagement.
“If the highway is deemed to be beneficial to us, explain why. However, there has been absolutely no response from them.
“This lack of response aggravates the situation. These decision makers are fixated on continually supporting the highway project despite the widespread objections raised by us,” the group&#8217;s chairman ,David Yoong, said in a statement today.
Yoong pointed to Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s announcement on July 31, 2023, that the project would be scrapped.
He said this was followed by “behind the scenes flip-flop operations” and the project’s subsequent revival without public information.
“This lack of transparency has only rubbed salt on our wounds and brought forth more distrust of the state government and authorities,” he said.
Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil also said Putrajaya had decided to cancel the project after the concessionaire failed to comply with six of the government’s 11 conditions.
However, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung said a Cabinet meeting had agreed to grant the project developer, PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd, the flexibility to submit a fresh proposal for a new alignment.
Yesterday, Lee said the latest alignment proposed was merely a modification of the old route, not a new alignment as decided by the Cabinet.
After attending the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting, he said several elected representatives shared the same view.
“As a matter of respect for the Cabinet’s decision (on May 8 last year), future discussions should be based on the new alignment, which is clearly different from the existing route,” he said.
