PETALING JAYA: A two-year-old boy drowned after he wandered off and was later found unconscious in the swimming pool of a homestay in Teluk Kumbar, George Town, Penang, last night, say police.
In a statement today, Barat Daya police chief Sazalee Adam said the child, Luthfan Harraz Azali, was found floating in the pool by his father and a friend at around 10.30pm.
“The boy was believed to have gone missing from their room and was later found unconscious in the swimming pool of a homestay in Teluk Kumbar,” he said.
Sazalee said the child was rushed to Balik Pulau Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death at 11.40pm.
He said the victim’s father, a 46-year-old self-employed man, had travelled to the homestay with three of his children to meet a friend visiting from Kuala Lumpur.
The boy’s mother, who works at a factory in Bayan Lepas, was not with them.
A post-mortem carried out the next morning determined that drowning was the cause of death.
Sazalee said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect.
