The ministry’s communications unit issued a statement following the controversy sparked by minister Nga Kor Ming’s rebuke of a reporter at a press conference.

PETALING JAYA : The housing and local government ministry this evening said it respected media freedom, but defended the right to respond to journalists, after minister Nga Kor Ming was criticised for his rebuke of a reporter during a press conference.

In a statement by the ministry’s corporate communications unit, the ministry said it appreciated the vital role the media played in reporting accurate and verified information to the public.

“We also respect the freedom to ask questions during press conferences.”
