PETALING JAYA: Informal discussions have been held by MIC and Perikatan Nasional about their political direction, MIC president SA Vigneswaran said today.
He said the party’s leadership is examining the matter seriously after several resolutions on MIC supporting PN and a possible exit from Barisan Nasional were approved by the party&#8217;s state leaderships in Kedah, Perak and Penang.
He said the changing political dynamics and landscape called for action to ensure the party does not fall.
“MIC is not hiding anything. This is not something secret,&#8221; Harian Metro quoted him as saying.
&#8220;The party’s leadership will determine our direction. That said, we are not angry with anyone,” he said after opening the Johor MIC delegates’ convention in Kota Tinggi today.
Last week, several MIC chapters were reported as having approved resolutions to cooperate with PN, and did not reject the possibility of leaving Barisan Nasional. However, Kedah MIC chairman SK Suresh said the final decision lies with the party’s central leadership.
Vigneswaran said the leadership will make the final decision for the sake of the Indian community’s future.
“National political dynamics have changed. If MIC does not accept this reality, we will disappear. We accept that we are viewed as weak.
&#8220;However, it is strange that so many people are still discussing our party. We do not understand this,” he said.
Vigneswaran stated that the party would not believe in all the analyses and things said about it, and would only trust in its grassroots.
